Just set it up on a 32 bit Win XP machine on a VMWare server. Had to install iTunes first.This command sets up the service: sc.exe create AirPrint binPath= “C:\Program Files\AirPrint\airprint.exe

I was so close and even got past the user id and password challenge (even though I checked the “blank password” check box it still required one). I just couldn’t get it to print from my iPad to my HP LaserJet printer. Do I have to run the cmd commands every time I boot up my laptop? Any help you could provide would be great!

  Couldn’t get rid of the padlock when selecting printer on my IPad. After many hours I found out that I had, having a 64bit OS, created the AirPrint folder in “Program Files” (for 64 bit programs) and not in the “Program Files (x86)”. • After a couple of hours of troubleshooting finally I got it working! Just had to disable both the windows firewall and the ESET firewall. Suddenly printers had appeared on the iPhone. So, go get it!

  How do I uninstall?? Does not work for me and I’m sick of trying. I want it gone as I’ve had issues with my server since installing it.

  There is no uninstall and no record of how to remove registry entries.

  Can someone please help to tell me how to unistall.

  It didn’t work for me on iPhone 5 with iOS 6 on Windows 7 64-bit. I analyzed the code briefly, and it looks like it should actually work. The problem for some is that the code is not written as it would be by a professional for a large population. For example, I have multiple installations of Windows on my machine, one on the C: drive and another on an N: drive etc. The code appears to be hardcoded to install on the C: drive with a direct link–which will work for most people. But because I have Windows installed on N:, it installed some drivers on C:, and so the Windows service could not find the installed drivers until I manually copied the installed folder from C: into the same location on the N: drive. It should be coded with an indirect path relative to the OS you’re currently in, rather than assume you’re always in C:. The other issue is that the program does not have an uninstall to cleanly remove all drivers, registry entries and folders. So once you install it, and it fails, it leaves footprints throughout your system. It’s a free program and a convenient service for most; but if you’re a bit technical and have later or advanced versions of iOS, iPhone, or Windows like me, you might be better off navigating through the manual instructions even though the screenshots don’t match the latest version of the AirPrint installer. It was a fun attempt to get it to work, and I even contemplated purchasing an alternative software or hardware solution. But in the end, I realized that the cool factor is what intrigued me. However, I’m abandoning this feature because I’ve never used it in the past, and don’t really have a real use to print everything I want to keep mobile from my iPhone. The whole point of my mobile is that I don’t need to print: I have my phone with me! if I really need to occasionally print, I’ll do so from my laptop or desktop. It’s much easier for these rare occasions–especially considering that you have to turn on your laptop for this thing to work anyway. So not *truly* mobile and self-contained anyway, and would probably stop working when something gets updated, reboot, etc. Great service to the user community; but now I’m wondering why I even began to attempt over an hour ago!

  I wanted to know if this is possible. I have a printer connected to a shared computer that I want to use AirPrint. I want to be able to print without any user logging in. Is there a startup script I can use under group policy to have AirPrint start with Windows, not login?

  • I would try to run the program as a service. There are free downloads to run as a service. Also, you could create an autologin for that PC that has the printer with a screen saver which locks the PC after a minute (prompting for a password). Try Google.

    Can anyone shed some light on the following setup because it doesn’t seem logical to me; I have installed Airprint Installer and patch on my father’s desktop running vista which has two usb attached shared printers and is also usb attached to a wireless router. With this configuration Airprint printers are not found on his Ipad2.But if I turn on his netbook running xp which connects to the wireless router, then the Ipad now shows the desktop shared printers and can print.How can he just use the Ipad and desktop without having to have another computer running?

    i have 2 devices , ipod 4th and iphone 4g, i can print 100% via ipod but, cant via iphone. Printer cant be seen from iphone. Why? (both are 5.1.1).

    I installed airprint software without any problem. My printer appeared, but unfortunatelly it is locked on my IPad. I tried both guest, and airprint account, but they didn’t work. I have windows 8 on my desktop, and ios6.1.2 on my IPad. Could you help me ?

    • • I can’t recommend FingerPrint. I tried it and it worked – until Apple went to iOS 5. When I contacted Collobos, they said they didn’t force me to upgrade to iOS 5 and that if I want FingerPrint to work with iOS 5 that I have to buy their newer version of FingerPrint. Needless to say – I am not happy and refused to be taken in so they can charge me again for the next release.

        • Hi, i heard that using of airprint specification on server is restricted. I would like to know if this airprint.exe is apple propritery and what is its license terms.

          Not working for me at all. I’ve got it installed on a Window7 64 PC with MacAfee firewall and a Windows Vista system with Windows Firewall. Same problem on both – the service is patched and running, and the iPad2 ‘sees’ the printer with a padlock even though I set it up guest with no password required. Nothing prints.

          • I followed the instructions and it worked up until I typed the command sc.exe start AirPort
            I get the message
            StartService FAILED 1075:
            The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.

            • Apple Bonjour Print service is not installed. Airprint depends on this service. For download of the software package and installation hints see http://support.apple.com/kb/DL999.Please note that a full installation of ITunes is not necessary when Bonjour is installed.

              I am trying to get this installed. The first time I ran it manually and didn’t run as an administrator. I then found the installer and try it but get the error about the “cannot start service airprint on computer”. I then found and ran the installer as administrator and got the error message that “airprint service failed to start with teh following message: system.invalidoperationexceptions: cannot start service airprint on computer. system.componentmodel.win32exception: the dependency service does not excist or has been marked for deletion. check firewall setting. I went to windows firewall and added an incoming rule for this and rebooted and get same error. thoughts?

              • Don’t run the installer. Simply download the file, unzip the files into the C:/Program Files/Airprint folder and then follow the instructions below.

                How do I uninstall the manual Airprint Installation?
                I try to delete the Airprint folder in Program(x86) and it says it’s being used.
                How do I make the program using it be shut down so I can delete the file and install Airprint through the automatic process?

                • or you could restore your computer to the last restore point, I have about 3 new points a day for the past week, but, it depends on how system restore is setup to say how effective and how far back you will go

                  I can get it to see the printer and go through the act of printing, but then it takes a bit and tells me that the printer is offline, which it is not. Any ideas?

                  • Nevermind. I forgot to set Windows Firewall to allow AirPrint through. It works like a charm now. Thanks everyone for posting a way to get AirPrint to work for the newest upgrade.

                    • Yes I my post also has messed up the quote characters in my post. You’ll have to replace them manually. This is now working for me now. I had to overcome the “locked” symbol beside the printer name on the iphone but that was overcome using the Guest account as mentioned elsewhere.

                      Help! Using Windows XP trying to get my iPad to print again since iOS5 upgrade. I unstalled Airprint and now I can’t get the program to reinstall -i keep getting that cupslite error. I have the new code ready to run for the ios5 but i need the program installed first. My user profile has full admin priviledges. Help. ;(

                      No matter what I do I cannot get this to work with my printers and IOS 5 device (iPhone). The printers wouldn’t even show up until I followed Guimon’s suggestions and re-registered the AirPrint service with the new command options. Now they show up but no matter what I do they are locked and I am never asked for a login or password. I got a suggestion from another site to have the service log on as a user that is normally on the system but when I did that the printers stopped showing up in the list. Any suggestions on what to try now?

                      I downloaded FingerPrint to try but it wouldn’t even work. Yeah, the printers show up (unlocked) in the list, but they never print anything sent to them. That site suggests that I may need to open a hole in the firewall, but I know the firewall hole is open because the “Open to my PC” option *does* work.

                      I’m beginning to think there might be printer settings that need to be changed, but nobody here has mentioned any of their settings and I really wouldn’t know where to begin. Again, any suggestions?

                      Just a note for Win 7 users
                      I struggled with the padlock showing on the printer list on the iPhone.
                      what I did wrong was that I “enabled” the guest acocunt by right-click on Computer –> manage –> Local Users and groups.
                      That did NOT work.
                      I had to go into control panel –> Add or Remove User account and enable Guest there. after restart of the service the printer now works!

                      This worked for me – Running 64 bit Vista, after the advise given not to cut and paste I carefully typed into the Command Prompt

                      1. At the command Prompt (Make sure your run the command prompt as an administrator) :

                      sc.exe delete Airprint

                      2. Then you need to restart PC

                      3. At the command Prompt (Make sure your run the command prompt as an administrator) :

                      sc.exe create AirPrint binPath= “C:\Program Files (x86)\AirPrint\airprint.exe -R _ipp._tcp,_universal -s” depend= “Bonjour Service” start= auto DisplayName= “Apple AirPrint for Windows”

                      4 At the command Prompt (Make sure your run the command line as an administrator) :

                      sc.exe start Airprint

                        • beware it’s not the same problem it was happenning to me: t should really be the following command:

                          sc.exe start AirPrint

                          sc.exe start Airprint

                          as the service was created as AirPrint and not Airprint.

                            i try those command and seems that it all work not error message BUT in my iPad it still not find any printer at all.

                            — The AirPrint service has been started normally (without any error)
                            — I did shared my printer from my Desktop
                            — My ipad is in the same wifi network

                            For those having issues, check the following (I ran into all three):

                            1. Make sure the path to airprint.exe is correct. If you’re running 32-bit Windows it will be in “Program Files” and if you’re running 64-bit it will be in “Program Files (x86)”. (Also, some of the paths in the comments have had the backslashes stripped.)

                            2. Make sure the four double quotes are the kind you can type on the keyboard, and not the “fancy quotes” the web page is using. To fix, copy and paste into a text editor like Notepad and type over them.

                            3. If you get an error attempting to install the service, it may require a reboot after you run the delete command for it to actually be deleted before the create command will succeed.

                            The reason the copy and paste is not working is because of the open/close quotes. Copy and paste the command line into notepad and overwrite each set of quotes with your own quotes (“)

                            DOS doesn’t understand the open double quotes and close double quotes.

                            Thx for all the great tips on how to enable airprint on iOS and windows. I’m running a WHS2011 server (based on windows server 2008 R2). I can get the service running ok and I see the printer on my iOS device. BUT there is a padlock next to the printer name.
                            I have enabled the guest account on the server, restarted the service but no luck.. Any ideas?

                            I’ve followed all of this, and I’m getting nowhere fast. Took me a while just to get the thing unzipped, and now I can’t get it to work, no matter what I try– firewalls down, all the CMD commands tried. I’m just stuck! I have the latest Windows 7 and the latest iOS5 and the latest iTunes. What the heck???

                            • I have a Kodak 5000 series printer with WiFi capability. When I originally bought Print Agent I struggled with it for quite a while and finally concluded that it simply wasn’t going to work with Kodak printers. (Kodak was not on the original list of acceptable printers.) In looking at the above posts it appears that someone might have gotten airprint to work with Kodak. If so … HELP!!! Any sage advice about getting the Kodak printer to work??

                              I finally got my iPad2 (iOS 5) to recognize my printer, but I can’t get past the little lock on the screen. It never actually asks me for my id or password. I’ve tried the guest account idea, and that doesn’t work either.

                              I’m not really liking the idea of opening up the guest account anyway. Is there a command line switch that will tie this tool to a specific user account?
